Pattern Exercise 4

For this exercise you will be designing a pattern using an alternate repetition rule. The Block Repeat pattern on the upper left can be easily created using the rectangular array tool. The other patterns are variations on row and column repetitions.

Objectives/Outcomes and Assessment Criteria

Students will acquire and demonstrate: 1.) technical competency in working with basic drawing tools and arrays, 2.) sense of craft through precision and care in the presentation of the work, 3.) problem solving skills in meeting problem constraints, and 4.) richness and complexity of design.

Steps

P.4.1. Make a new file by making a copy of your titleblock. Name the file with your last name followed by your first name followed by Pattern4.

P.4.2. In model space draw a pattern that meets the following criteria:

  • The pattern must employ any of the repetition patterns illustrated above, except the Block Repetition.
  • The pattern must be filled with multiple fields of color using solid hatch.  Each fill color should have its own layer.
  • The line work of your pattern must be on a layer that does not print. Only the solid fill layers of your pattern should print.
  • The pattern must be drawn with precision using object snaps and fractional dimensions increments that round to the nearest 1/32".
  • The number of repetitions is up to you.
  • You may use patterns that you have seen as a basis for your design, but the design must be your own.
  • As this is a near end of semester project, the solution must reflect your skills and knowledge of the software through the complexity of your design.

If you make hand-drawn sketches of your pattern, you can scan and upload them for 25 extra points (+25%).

P.4.3. Compose the pattern in the viewport titleblock. The pattern must completely fill the viewport. It can extend beyond the viewport square.

P.4.4. Create a pdf of the layout. Make sure that ccc.ctb is in its proper folder. Name the pdf with your name followed by Pattern4.

P.4.5. Upload your pdf and drawing file. Upload the scan of your sketches of your pattern if you made one.
