Description
The purpose of this assignment is to use AutoCAD to begin drawing a formal architectural floor plan. You will use architectural units (feet and inches), and start by drawing the walls, then proceed to add doors, and windows.
Objectives/Outcomes and Assessment Criteria
Demonstrate an understanding of AutoCAD through the generation of an architecturally-related drawing assignment.
Print a PDF file of the drawing.
Demonstrate craftsmanship as manifest through precision of the drawing.
Document completed assignments in a digital format and archive those digital artifacts in MIro and Google Drive.
General Instructions to begin the drawing
Make sure you have applied these customization settings before starting this drawing.
1. Create a new drawing. Select the acad.dwt template (depending on your settings, you may not see the file extension). Then click Open.
2. Save the file as firstinitiallastname Arch170 XPLAN.dwg (The reason for the X in the title will be explained in a later assignment).
For example, the student Maya Lin would name her file MLin Arch 170 XPLAN.dwg. Make sure to use your first initial and last name.
3. Format the units as shown in the image. Click OK.
4. Set OSNAPS, ORTHO, and OTRACK as needed to start the drawing. Be prepared to toggle these tools on and off as needed.
5. Watch the step-by-step tutorial to begin drawing the walls.
6. Watch the step-by-step tutorial to insert the doors and windows
7. Watch the step-by-step tutorial to continue drawing walls, and inserting blocks (bathroom and doors). Some of the concepts are for review.
8. Watch the step-by-step tutorial to complete the floor plan, and inserting blocks (kitchen fixtures).
9. Watch the step-by-step tutorial to print the floor plan to an 11x17 sheet size, at an architectural scale (1/4” = 1’-0”) and using appropriate lineweights.
10. You now have a DWG file and a PDF file. Both files should have the same filename with different file extensions. Save and close your AutoCAD drawing file.
11. Upload both files to your Google Drive for evaluation. Upload the PDF file to the Miro board for evaluation.
